He is Good

Good morning everyone, thank you for joining me again this Friday morning for another epiphany. I greatly appreciate y'all's support in the beginning off this blog and my hope is that it provides you with a new look at some of the questions we've all had about our faith walk. Today's focus is on the distinction between knowing God is good and believing He is. Lets be honest, we all know God is good my hope is that we can all believe God is good. I will be using the passage out of John chapter 10, where Jesus speaks on who he is to the pharisees, I would encourage you to read chapters 9-10 to get the full context. I will be using John 10:11-18  out of the New American Standard Bible as the main point, but I encourage you to read it in the version you best comprehend.

Jesus says in these verses "I am the good shepherd" and elaborates on what that means. The focus of these verses helps us to know God is good, because simply put Jesus is God and He is saying how He is the good shepherd and because we can see this example and when we see something we know it. Believing on the other hand is deeper than just seeing and knowing, we believe in things we can't see. An example of this is when we are young, often we are scared of monsters in the dark, not because we've seen them and know they're real, but because we believe they're real and that belief creates the fear that grips us as children. However, as we get older we come to know they aren't real and they no longer hold power over us, but the idea that they could exist persists (which is how you get horror movies and the likes) and grips us still in a different way. Believing reaches deeper than knowing.

We can know God is good because He tells us, but if we choose to believe that He is good then we will begin to see His goodness in all that happens around us. Knowing God is good gives us the lens of being in the moment and being blind to His work around you. On the other hand, believing God is good leads to being thankful in the moment and seeing God's plan and will coming to fruition all around you! God's desire for us isn't for us to just know, or have faith by sight. He wants us to BELIEVE in Him and His plan, it's so much greater than anything we could do without Him and so much more rewarding. Believing God is good gives a much deeper sense of peace than just knowing, you don't have to rely on your knowledge. The belief carries more weight and therefore anchors your faith better so it wont be weathered by the storm. Knowledge fails, especially earthly knowledge. You can only know so much, your brain is limited in its capacity, whereas your spirit can believe in God forever and isn't bound by the limitations of your body.

To wrap this up and put a bow on this, God's desire for you is to believe in His goodness and trust in Him. After all Proverbs 3:5 says "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding." That verse is pointing toward a belief in God rather than a knowledge of God. Thank you for reading this post and please share and comment your thoughts on this topic. I don't have all the answers and am always looking for a new angle to look at God's word! Have a great day, and stay chill.

Kings

Happy Friday all! Thank you again for joining me this week, God has just continued to work in me through this and I appreciate you all being a part of it. This week I am going to be going over the first two Kings of Israel, Saul and David. You can find the stories of these two great men in the book of Samuel (both 1 and 2), for the sake of keeping this post shorter I will not be posting the whole story rather I encourage you to look up the stories and read them. I will be referencing specific scripture in the NASB translation, but encourage you to read whatever you most comprehend. First thing first lets look at Israel at the time leading up to this moment, they have been a nation composed of tribes that have been lead by prophets or judges (think like folk heroes with powers from God, but less cool. I recommend reading Judges to get the full story, because it was a big fail) The people are fed up with not seeing God interact with them so they ask for a king like the nations (1 Samue...

Sword of The Spirit

Thank you again for joining me this week as I share another epiphany from God. The primary scripture used in this post is going to be Ephesians 6:17 I am continuing to use the NASB translation, but again I encourage you to use the translation that you best understand. This passage is found at the end of Paul's letter to the local church in Ephesus, the primary message of this letter is to remind the Christians there that they are fighting a spiritual battle. At the end of this letter Paul is wrapping up the letter by equipping the Ephesian Christians with a metaphor of the tools used to fight in this battle, using the imagery of a Roman Legionary. This metaphor works even for us modern Christians, and my goal is to share with you the importance of using the tools provided in the metaphor. "And take The Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of The Spirit, which is the Word of God." I want to take this opportunity to focus on the Sword of The Spirit, which is the Word of God...

It Was Good...

Welcome back and happy Friday! I'm going to do my best to post something new every Friday in the hopes that regularly sharing what I am experiencing in my faith will not only keep me accountable, but also spark a discussion that can provide a little more shape to this blog. I want to take this moment to first thank God again for all that He is showing me in this season, but also to thank you for reading this and sharing this when you see fit. God is moving, and we all get to be a part of that move, so I thank you for facilitating my part. This week I wanted to take a look into the very beginning of everything, the creation story in Genesis. I am continuing to use the NASB translation, and encourage you if you haven't read Genesis chapters 1-3 to do so in the translation that you best comprehend. Now back to the focus of today's post "it was good" that phrase is used by God six times in Genesis chapter one. Every single time it is mentioned He is referring to His...
